Koforidua Technical University (KTU) is set to benefit from a GHS 3.68 million investment by the MTN Ghana Foundation to establish three state-of-the-art technical and engineering laboratories and equip 32 lecture halls with smart classroom facilities.
The investment, facilitated through the instrumentality of the University's Chancellor, Apesemakahene Nana Kwesi Boama (Kwesi Eduafo Yankey), represents a significant step towards strengthening the University's digital learning infrastructure and enhancing the quality of technical and engineering education.
The MTN Ghana Foundation is seeking to invest a total of GHS 3,683,042.00 in the project, in line with its commitment to promoting digital inclusion, strengthening Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education, and supporting national development through technology-enabled learning.
The project will directly benefit students and faculty members of the Faculties of Engineering, Applied Sciences and Technology, and Built and Natural Environment.
The three new technical and engineering laboratories will provide students with opportunities to complement classroom instruction with practical, hands-on training using modern technologies. This is expected to strengthen their technical competencies and better prepare them for the demands of industry.
The 32 smart lecture halls, meanwhile, will provide an enabling environment for interactive, simulation-based and blended learning. The facilities are expected to enhance teaching and learning, support research and promote greater academic engagement through the integration of digital technologies into classroom instruction.
As a technical university committed to producing the skilled technicians and engineers required to drive Ghana's industrial development, KTU continues to pursue initiatives that align its academic delivery with evolving technological and industry demands. The MTN Ghana Foundation investment is expected to provide a significant boost to these efforts.
The project also reinforces the University's commitment to its motto, "Innovating for Development," by translating its vision for technology-driven education into tangible institutional infrastructure.
Upon completion, the initiative is expected to position KTU as the first public university in Ghana to benefit from a smart classroom transformation of this scale through the MTN Ghana Foundation, while creating a lasting educational legacy and equipping graduates with competencies relevant to the future of work.
The project will be completed by January 2027.
