Koforidua Technical University (KTU) successfully organised a two-day academic workshop for members of the University community under the theme “Repositioning African Universities for Societal Impact: Community-Led, Agenda-Driven Education, Research and Practice.” The workshop was held on the University’s main campus from January 22 to January 23, 2026, and formed part of KTU’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its academic and research mandate in line with national and continental development priorities.
The workshop provided a strategic platform for academic staff, researchers, and administrators to engage in in-depth discussions on how African universities can reposition themselves as key drivers of societal transformation through responsive teaching, impactful research, and community-centred practice. Participants explored innovative approaches to aligning academic activities with the real needs of society while promoting sustainable development and knowledge co-creation.

The workshop was facilitated by Prof. Ushotanefe Useh, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at North-West University, South Africa. In his presentations and interactive sessions, Prof. Useh emphasised the importance of strengthening research capacity, fostering interdisciplinary and cross-institutional collaboration, and building sustainable academic partnerships. He also highlighted opportunities for deepening institutional linkages between Koforidua Technical University and North-West University, particularly in the areas of joint research, staff development, and academic exchange programs.
Overall, the workshop reinforced KTU’s commitment to advancing agenda-driven education and research that directly contributes to societal development, while also strengthening international collaboration to enhance the University’s global academic footprint.
