The standards research at KTU is held to.
The core mandate of the Directorate is to ensure that a high-quality standard of research is carried out by researchers. In view of this, the Directorate's research policies and guidelines entail the following:
- To ensure that the quality of research is of the highest standard, in collaboration with various stakeholders.
- Individuals and corporate entities must uphold the highest ethical standards for the conduct of research.
- The University, in collaboration with the Directorate, must ensure that conducting research work is consistent with international guidelines.
- The University should foster an environment conducive to research. In this case, facilities, funds and other resources must be allocated in order to make research projects feasible.
Ethics Committee
The Directorate has appointed the services of Ethics Committee members, who are mandated to review research proposals that involve all participants of research. They ensure that data from researchers agree with both local and international ethical guidelines. Once researchers embark on a project, the Ethics Committee take up the task of monitoring and evaluation and, if necessary, may take part in follow-up actions at the end of the research. The ultimate goal of the Ethics Committee is to ensure that research meets the high ethical standards expected by the Directorate and the University in general.
Intellectual Property Policy
The Directorate partners with world intellectual property organisations, where programmes are organised on intellectual property in relation to research. The Research Directorate at KTU views intellectual property as the results and outcomes of research. It also guards ownership and use rights for concepts and ideas through the mechanisms of research such as patents, trademarks and copyrights.
Applied Research Fund (ARF)
The Directorate has always encouraged its faculty, research staff and students to actively involve themselves in research activities. It has been forthcoming in providing applied research funds, financial support and sponsorship of research activities.
