About Us

The Koforidua Technical University Clinic, also known as KTU Clinic, was commissioned in the year 2000. It is officially owned by the Koforidua Technical University (formerly Koforidua Polytechnic). The Clinic was established with the sole objective to cater for the health needs of members of the then Polytechnic community — students, staff members and their spouses and wards.

The facility started as a first-aid compartment and was later upgraded to a sick bay with a bed capacity of two (2), a dressing room and a dispensary. As the institution grew, the facility was further expanded to the status of a clinic to complement the growing health needs of the University.

During its early stages of operation, Dr. Samuel Osei Adjei (a Medical Practitioner and Proprietor of Oman Medical Clinic in Koforidua) was engaged on a locum basis from 1997 to October 2016 to supervise activities of the clinic. Dr. Osei Adjei was assisted by one stationed nurse and two orderlies, as well as a few visiting nurses who came around from time to time to run the Clinic for almost two decades. In November 2016, Dr. Albert Cole (a Medical Practitioner and Proprietor of the Newlands Hospital in Koforidua) was appointed to manage the Clinic until he resigned in August 2017.

The Clinic now boasts of a qualified Doctor, a Physician Assistant, Nurses, Pharmacists, Laboratory Technicians and other auxiliary staff that offer sound healthcare to clients to ensure a smooth running of the facility. The Management of Koforidua Technical University supervises the entire operations of the Clinic.

Presently, KTU Clinic is situated on the ground floor of the University’s Old Administration Block. It has a well-resourced outpatient department (OPD) with consulting rooms and wards, a well-stocked pharmacy, an eye care unit as well as a functional laboratory with state-of-the-art equipment to carry out its operations.

Clinic staff have all been given basic tutorials in French, making it possible to communicate in the French language when the need be.

It is worth noting that currently the KTU Clinic only serves the University Community — staff members and their spouses and wards, as well as students. However, after the completion of an ultra-modern health facility on campus, the Clinic shall be opened to the general public to serve the health needs of the immediate community and beyond.
