Koforidua Technical University

Prof. Richard Arthur

Dean

Academic Profile

Professor Richard Arthur earned his PhD in Biotechnology and Resources Management at the Bauhaus University, Weimar, in cooperation with the Research Centre for Biomass Utilisation, Hamburg University of Applied Sciences in Germany.

He also holds a Master of Science (MSc) in Mechanical Engineering with Thermo-fluids and Energy Systems option as well as a BSc in Chemical Engineering from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology, Ghana in 2009 and 2003, respectively.

He was appointed as a senior instructor at the Department of Energy Systems Engineering in 2009, and in 2010 he was promoted to the rank of Lecturer. After two years, he was subsequently promoted to the rank of Senior Lecturer in the same department. He has also been an international climate protection fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Germany, since 2012.

His general research areas include biotechnology and resource management, application of remote sensing techniques for assessing potential bioenergy resources in developing countries, anaerobic digestion of agricultural residues and OFMSW, solid and liquid waste treatment, biomass conversion technologies, water quality and climate change.

His current research interests look at trace element requirements and their impact on anaerobic digestion; biogas production from water hyacinth and other aquatic plants; optimisation and stabilisation of full-scale biogas plants; remote sensing. He has attended several local and international conferences and made many presentations, where he has even won awards for best poster presentation.

He has tremendous exposure in handling projects both local and international and has over 12 years of experience in handling engineering-related projects and organisational development with local and international cooperation. He has also won some grants for capacity building for Koforidua Technical University. He has incredible credentials in the use of Participatory Research Methodologies and Goal-Oriented Project Management (GOPM) in handling issues. Over the past 13 years, he has been involved in lecturing, research of students' project work and highly rated professional consultancy activities in Project Management and Grant Proposals. He is also a reviewer for some Elsevier journals.

He was appointed Dean of the Faculty of Engineering in January, 2022.
