Certificate in Agrifood Waste Technology

The Certificate in Agrifood Waste Technology programme is designed to equip individuals with the knowledge, skills and innovative approaches required to transform agricultural and food waste into valuable products and resources.

The programme combines practical, hands-on training with the science of waste valorisation, supporting sustainable food systems, circular-economy practices and enterprise development in the agrifood sector.

Academic Qualification

• Possession of a SSSCE/WASSCE with at least three (3) passes (A1–E8) in three (3) core subjects, plus three (3) electives.

Relevant Experience (Alternative Pathway)

Applicants who do not meet the preferred academic background but possess a minimum of two (2) years of verifiable professional experience in the agrifood sector, waste management, environmental sustainability or a related industry may be considered. This is assessed on a case-by-case basis through a portfolio review and/or interview demonstrating relevant knowledge and skills (Recognition of Prior Learning – RPL).

Mature Applicants

• Must be at least 25 years old.
• Must have a pure science, agriculture or home economics background from GCE O & A Levels or SSSCE/WASSCE.
• Must have at least two years of working experience in the food industry and pass an Entrance Examination.

Graduates are equipped to work in agrifood waste management and valorisation, environmental sustainability and circular-economy roles across food processing companies, agribusinesses, waste-management organisations and regulatory bodies. The programme also prepares participants to establish their own enterprises converting agricultural and food waste into marketable products.
