Aim of Programme
The programme aims at providing students with high quality education in actuarial science to prepare them for further professional studies or actuarial careers through the development of individuals with balanced mathematical, statistical, financial and economic theories, and their applications to practical problems. The programme is designed to provide theoretical as well as applicable education in concepts and practice of actuarial studies tailored at solving issues in the formal and informal sectors of Ghana’s economy.
Entry Requirement
- SSSCE Applicants
Passes (i.e., A-D) in three (3) core subjects namely English, Integrated Science and Core Mathematics PLUS three (3) elective passes including Elective Mathematics (minimum of grade C) with an aggregate not exceeding 24.
- WASSCE Applicants
Passes (A1–C6) in three (3) core subjects namely English, Integrated Science and Mathematics PLUS, three (3) elective passes including Elective Mathematics with an aggregate score not exceeding 36.
- GCE “O” and “A” Level Applicants:
Five (5) O Level passes including English and Additional Mathematics PLUS two “A” Level passes including Additional Mathematics/Elective Mathematics, Statistics or Economics.
- Mature Applicants
Applicants must have attained the age of 25 years or above. Must have a minimum of two (2) years working experience, and must pass a written aptitude test in English Language, Mathematics and General Knowledge conducted by the university.
- Applicants from Tertiary Institutions
- Diploma in Statistics from a recognized University, Polytechnic, or any accredited Tertiary institution with a Second-Class Lower Division or better.
- Diploma in Business Studies from a recognized tertiary institution with one year bridging (preparatory courses).

- Certificate in Statistics from a recognized tertiary institution plus three (3) credits at SSSCE/ WASSCE Level including Elective Mathematics (Minimum of C/C6).
- Graduates with professional certificate and years of industrial experience
There is also the huge potential of those who have left school and are currently employed for over 3years, practically those with Polytechnic Diplomas, graduates from Professional Society of Actuaries (SOA), the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) exams and others who are desirous of going back to school to top up their studies to earn a degree in Actuarial Science, must meet GTEC requirement and also pass Mature Entrance Examination organized by the university.
- HND Holders
HND Statistics graduates shall be admitted at the second year of the programme.
- Foreign Applicants
Foreign candidates with Mathematics/Statistical equivalent entry requirements will be considered.
Employment Opportunities for Graduates
Traditionally, actuaries are mostly found in the life-insurance sector. However, with the opening up of the economy, graduates would qualify to work in the following institutions;
- Insurance companies
- Reinsurance companies
- National Health Insurance Authority
- Financial institutions (Banks and Non-Banking Financial Institutions)
- Ghana Stock Market / Exchange
- Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT)
- Public Health Agencies such as Hospitals
- Investment companies
- Other analogues institutions
